Saying our goodbyes

Saying our goodbyes

Two long time contributors are leaving at the end of the month. I figured it might be a good thing to take some time to look at the awesome impact they had at FIXRS in the past 3-4 years.

Nia Krasteva

Nia joined us in February 2021, in gentler times, before the whole planet got hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Right away we were charmed by Nia's positivism and enthusiasm. Being old timers ourselves, it was refreshing to work with Nia. At the time FIXRS was almost 2 years old, she took a bet joining a company so young. At the time, she was still a young developer, but rapidly she gained confidence working on PHP (mostly, but not limited to, WordPress) projects.

In the past years, she worked on scool.ca (currently offline). A platform made in laravel to index schools around you, with useful filters. Nia was in direct contact with the client, managing communication, documenting tasks and taking most of the work as well.

Nia also contributed to plansante.ca, an angularjs platform we did not design, but helped maintained. It's always a challenge to take over the work of someone you never worked with, with close to no documentation, but I think we can say Nia exceeded expectations on this project.

A good bunch of Nia's time was also dedicated to Buddha-station and the new WordPress e-commerce platform we put in place for them. COVID killed their business plan, but Nia and the team were able to create a great website tailored to the client's needs. They had awesome reporting tools and custom shipping reports.

More recently she has been recently on an internal product that we call The Bridge, which aims to synchronize our basecamp and jira tasks together.

Thanks, Nia, for all your hard work in the last 3 years!

Arthur Ogibowski

Arthur joined 4 years ago. FIXRS was just a baby back then, not even 1-year-old. Arthur was initially helping us with our Python/Django projects at the time, like TradeSpecifix.

Quickly he started helping the whole team on all our projects, it didn't matter if it was in VueJS, WordPress, wagtail or Drupal, Arthur was ready to help the team whenever he could.

Eventually though, Arthur found something he loved, automated testing. He started implementing locust.io tests, integrating them to our docker stack, documenting them and maintaining them. His tests were able to pinpoint some important performance issues in a few projects. I just wish more web citizen would take performance more seriously and benefit from Arthur's expertise.

In the last year Arthur was in charge of keeping our clients sites up to date. The web is a dark place nowadays, you want to make sure you are using updated plugins and modules on your site. It's not the most interesting work, but it's an important part of making a product available online.

Thanks, Arthur, for the last 4 years!
